korpi: (chaotic good)
Oh god, I just had a brilliant, revolutionary thought. Sometimes when an author adds something to [their work] that might be read as homoerotic, they might be thinking that it's...

wait for it...

just as relevant to the story as all the other elements they have added. Like, even in a world where "yaoi fangirls" and "yuri fanboys"* don't exist as recognizable groups to "pander"...? The gay might still be there! Besides, I have the strangest feeling that sometimes even the fan-pandering type of gay can grow into something more serious. Just a... is it a "hunch" if it's based on direct evidence?

Or maybe I'm just crazy.

Not that there aren't two sides to every argument. Shows that use gay for titillation far outnumber the ones that don't. But despite what people seem to think, instead of being happy about those meaningless moments, some of us find that annoying.

Point is, the next time someone dismisses something perfectly logical and in-character as a "nod to the fangirls", I will punch them through the internet.

*because these are the only two groups in existence, as you know that gay is only a heterosexual fantasy

CLAMP in Wonderland 2, notably featuring Ashura from RG Veda trying to practise one of the oldest professions in the world.

SPOILERS FOR EVERYTHING UP TO CHAPTER 166 )

L-lol, Kurogane.

Things iTunes is from now on forbidden from doing: pulling this current song when I'm cleaning up scans of a scene where two one-eyed people exchange their last words to each other.

Spoilers, that's what's for breakfast )

This is the happy owner of all of Tokyo Babylon speaking. I finally got my hands on the fifth volume (read: finally got off my ass and actually walked to the bookstore), and. Yes. I don't know whether Tokyopop's translation is better than the fan translation or not, but I certainly enjoyed it more. Not to say anything about the quality of the graphics in the book as compared to that of the scans.

From the library: something of Murakami Haruki's, the first part of Genji Monogatari (...why?), and Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of mystery and imagination, complete with illustrations and all. I foresee many wonderful moments spent reading in the sun! Now, if only the weather would cooperate...

Hello, random Tokyo Babylon/X spoiler! )

I make snide comments about the silliest things to my friends. I thought that they think of it as mere background noise, until I learnt that because of my constant nagging one friend has stopped wearing make up at school and a few others have started recycling with a fresh enthusiasm. Wonderful.

(Came back from a Swedish exam some hours ago. It was distracting, to say the least, to try to do it when all I had in my head was "you touch my tralala, my ding ding dong".)

...

...

...CLAMP Campus Defenders Duklyon and X take place in the same dimension.

I mean, the Evil Sheep Beast Wooltar ("Touch me, I'm 100% wool! ♥") and the hundreds of thousands of lives violently lost when faced with falling buildings. In the same universe.

Just. What.
korpi: (passing by)
The idea came to me suddenly as I was reading Tokyo Babylon. Of course, it didn't happen this way, but what if?

Once upon a time on Rainbow Bridge )

Which would, IMHO, have been the most heartbreaking option. CLAMP may be evil but not THIS evil, thanks to whatever deity listening for small favours. Round and round and round we go...
korpi: (let the bodies hit the floor)
The latest chapter of X is the most vicious cliffhanger I've ever seen. It would be bad even if there was just a week or a month until the next chapter - but three years? Three years and still counting.

The art in the first volumes is really crappy, same as with Berserk. The pitfalls of a long-running manga.

For comparison (and a nice full circle), the first pages of the first and the nineteenth (holy hell this is a long series) volumes. Spoilers, or not. Ten years have passed )

The X Character Files have taught me that no matter how I think that CLAMP will never surprise me again - incest and pedophilia in a magical girl series! - they'll always find something. In the Files we learn that Yuzuriha (the hyper, optimistic 14-year-old girl) and Kusanagi (a member of a self-defence force, twenty-something, likes little girls) spent a good deal of their first meeting conversing alcohol. In the "oh, but don't you dislike a girl who drinks?" "on the contrary, I'm quite fond of liquor myself" kind of way.

...

And who cares about Seishirou and Fuuma and whoever, Touru is the hottest, pun not intended, character in the whole damn story. Kamui's flaming mother. Pfft. Ahahaha.
korpi: (...how scandalous)
Spotted so far in xxxHOLiC, the manga - Doumeki's smile: once. Other facial expressions include and are quite limited to a frown, a neutral frown, a frown with displeasure, a frown with anger, an ittadakimasu-frown, a frown with concentration, a frown with wonder, an unconscious frown and a watanuki-will-you-shut-the-fuck-up face. I love CLAMP.

I refrain from saying anything about the Evangelion manga, because I don't know whether to believe it or not. Wow, Kaworu. Wow.
korpi: (love for you)
With the latest developments in Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, I'm slowly sinking back into my... ancient (old. old. so old.) X obsession. And I'm enjoying every second of it.

CLAMP, you've made me love you again. A heartfelt thank-you for that.

In related news, the icon that made my night. Yes, it's Subaru. No, it's not even three am yet.

In less related news, the third comment in this thread is a thing of beauty. Hah.

Firstly, a glorious and ridiculously long Gundam Wing fanfiction: Freeport by [livejournal.com profile] maldoror_gw. Over an year after the first chapter, it has been finished. And there was much rejoicing. (The last, 34th chapter, as well as the epilogue can be found on LJ.) Warnings: graphic sex, graphic politics and graphic violence, yay! Oh, and 2x5. Yeah.

Secondly, the xxxHolic movie, Manatsu no yoru no yume, which can be found at Shinsen-Subs' torrent page. Some thoughts on the movie adaption, spoiler-free )

I can make icons. No, really, I can. ...but what the hell is this?

And, randomly, something I thought up while coming from school the other day. (Cut for random idiocy, general un-funniness that makes only me laugh, butchering of the beautiful language of Finnish, and...)

...a hell of a lot of spoilers for RG Veda. )
