good morning, internet
Oh god, I just had a brilliant, revolutionary thought. Sometimes when an author adds something to [their work] that might be read as homoerotic, they might be thinking that it's...
wait for it...
just as relevant to the story as all the other elements they have added. Like, even in a world where "yaoi fangirls" and "yuri fanboys"* don't exist as recognizable groups to "pander"...? The gay might still be there! Besides, I have the strangest feeling that sometimes even the fan-pandering type of gay can grow into something more serious. Just a... is it a "hunch" if it's based on direct evidence?
Or maybe I'm just crazy.
Not that there aren't two sides to every argument. Shows that use gay for titillation far outnumber the ones that don't. But despite what people seem to think, instead of being happy about those meaningless moments, some of us find that annoying.
Point is, the next time someone dismisses something perfectly logical and in-character as a "nod to the fangirls", I will punch them through the internet.
*because these are the only two groups in existence, as you know that gay is only a heterosexual fantasy

What do you mean, relevant to the story? Clearly you are wrong - it's only fanservice, and the actual story wouldn't suffer at all if you removed it!Seriously though, I couldn't agree more. I've seen this quite a lot in the CLAMP fandom, and I can't help thinking that people who dismiss the interactions between... say, Fai and Kurogane or Fuuma and Kamui as pure fanservice missed the point of the story to some extent. Sure, there are different ways to interpret those relationships, but saying that they're not important to the plot just seems so very ignorant. The same goes for many other series out there, even though there definitely are lots of examples of the opposite as well.

It just seems so odd to me to single this one thing out. Like, if someone started claiming that all humorous scenes are clearly done to satisfy the comedy lovers, have no bearing on the overall product, and should be ignored by the "real fans"? Would make no sense to anyone.
I thankfully have had mostly positive experiences with CLAMP fans, but, then again, I don't follow the fandom that closely.
