This post is a result of two things: my heartbreak over no one responding to that meme I posted some time ago (my love for rambling about my favourite pairings is neverending), and my finding of a most extraordinarily excellent piece of writing that needed reccing right away, only all the post would have consisted of then would have been "[link] AAHHHHHHH!!!!". Considering some of my latest postings methinks it would have been a little too much. (New journal subtitle: three sentences at most or your money back!)
But here it is. Some of my favourite fanfictions for some of my favouriteromantic? fictious relationships, ranging from the platonic (with maybe just a tinge of something else) to unmitigated romance.

For nostalgia's sake. Spoilers for everything.
Good, Or Don't Be [Neon Genesis Evangelion; Kaworu/Shinji]
Four times Shinji Ikari met Kaworu Nagisa, and one he did not. Spoilers.
Five Ways Yamamoto Almost Confessed His Love to Gokudera [Hitman Reborn!; Exactly what it says on the tin.]
This "five things" format, done right, is something I'm very fond of. Surprisingly, not a comedy. Spoilers for the Varia arc.
Semantics [Naruto; Shikamaru/Temari]
Because it's so them. Set in an unspecified timeline, certainly doesn't match with recent developments.
A Resolution of Territory [Hikaru no Go; Hikaru, Akira, assorted others]
Contains much brilliant porn. And even more brilliant go matches.
Sixty Days [FAFNER in the azure; Kazuki/Soushi]
I can't vouch for the actual quality of the writing for the very same reason I heartily vouch for the emotional power behind this piece: every single time I've read it I've cried so hard my brain shuts down and I can't see straight. ...I've rec'd this before, haven't I? Spoilers for everything.
Music Boxes, Musical Chairs [Gankutsuou; Franz, Albert, Eugenié]
Before things start going wrong, a small sanctuary in an unrelenting society. Non-spoilers for character relationships.
An Anthy/Utena 1sentence claim [Revolutionary Girl Utena]

Alternate Universe. Probably not what you think. Recommended reading even if you don't care for the pairing. Spoilers for the first season.

A pair of crazy crooked children. Spoilers.
Broken on the Wheel [RG Veda; Kendappa-ou/Souma]

Individualism, dualism, and an art class project.
An exercise in denial [Bleach; Soi Fong -> Yoruichi]
This one I rec'd years back. Forever relevant.
Trinity (part II) [Final Fantasy IV; Cecil/Kain(/Rosa)]
Not a stellar performance on part of the author, but this gets to be mentioned here if only because the last part (the last heartwarming paragraph) absolutely melts me into a puddle of warm happy goo. And I'm adding Rosa there, dammit, even if the end is ambivalent. Spoilers for endgame.
Living (Breathing) Like This [Final Fantasy VII; Aerith/Tifa]
Clear and cool, like mornings in late autumn! (Ouch.)
A Thousand Flowers [Final Fantasy X; Tidus/Yuna]
No spoilers, not really, but you'll miss all the delicious, bittersweet irony if you don't know the real story. Fanfiction.net has sadly screwed over the formatting. Sadface.
Chrysalis (part II) [Final Fantasy XII; Ashe/Rasler]
Calling this "Ashe's sexual awakening" might turn people away, but... that's what it is, really. Uh. Spoilers for the opening animation.

Godhands [Spoilers, Spoilers] - Set after the game. Between it? Mandatory reading after beating it. Spoilers.

The most convincing emulation of the feel of the original material this humble one has seen in fanfiction, regardless of said feel or said original material. Savvy. Groovy. Full of plot. Full of mythological references. Spoilers for endgame.

Now I wish we'd seen the movie from her point of view instead.

That Yamamoto/Gokudera thingie was awesome. I've been pretty much avoiding the fandom because I've been afraid they'd ruin the characters for me. I'm glad I read that though, it made me hurt inside in that bittersweet way, and I almost cried quite a few times. Damn. D:
Will be reading some more later on, but for now I'll just dwell on the awesomeness of that one.
