journeying across the country
A-ha,
_ergoproxy's layout pwns the lj nav bar!
Ahem.
There was a wedding, and it ended happily: the bride and the groom got married. I myself acted like a spoiled brat from the seventh hour of the party on. Being an absolutist, meaning no alcohol to keep me company, and an animangaholic, meaning that time away from the subject o'obsession is unpleasant*, such a time-consuming fest lasted too long for my liking. Anyway.
After the joyous event. For a time period nearing a week we (yours truly, and her mother) stayed at
nejisiili's, each spending time in her own way. For mom it meant visiting relatives, for me, among other things, reading Harry Potter fanfiction. Which is a perfectly acceptable pastime when dwelling in a location near aforementioned hard-to-keep-in-touch-with relatives, thank you very much. Other activities include crossing a cemetery with an ice cream sandwich (I think it made me look like I was there for amusement reasons. Which, now that I think of it, is not that far off the mark), watching Asian movies of varying quality (bad and worse) and visiting the Capital to see the pirate movie** people have spoken much of.
The visit was in no way a waste, though, for because of the trip to Helsinki, I can now say I have truly lived/can die happy/have fulfilled mychildhood teenage dream/all of the above: I have bought a bottle of that Japanese lemonade that has the most unconventional glass bead system for a cap, and drank it. Truly, its taste wasn't anything ground-shattering, but there was a glass bead inside the bottle. Glass bead! :D
After the glass bea-- I mean, trip to the Capital we headed for Turku and the Alphonse Mucha exhibition, which was nothing short of gorgeous. That man had the exact style I have always hoped to achieve. Though not that professionally, of course.
The very same day we drove over to my brother's and his wife's. By the time we arrived there it was night already. On Saturday afternoon we, now including the brother and the wife, roamed various second-hand bookshops*** and dined at a restaurant named Cat's whiskers. We were quite the merry party, I think we managed to scare half of the restaurant's other occupants half to death with our sudden bursts of laughter. Oops.
Yet the next day, today, we drove back home and thus ends the rather anticlimatic story of Ilona's journey not quite through the country! And all I got was this lousy ache in the backs of m'eyes.
*In reality I'm not that bad. There just wasn't anything to entertain me for that long a time. One can only play Gallows for so long.
**It was... a mishmash but a damn entertaining one at that. Can't say whether it was better or worse than the first one.
***Where I managed to find a copy Arthur Waley's translation of Cheng-en's Journey to West in good condition, for three euros only!
