Winter Holiday is a holiday in name only. Winter Holiday is an excuse for teachers to make their students work. Math? "Since you're going to have a holiday, you have free time to do these few dozen exercises." Finnish? "And during the holiday you have enough time to read you essay books and work on the portfolio you'll have to return in a few weeks." Piano? "Finally you have the time to practice, like, five hours a day!" The list goes on.
I'm not getting stress from this, though, I'm rebelling against their tyrannic rule and spending my holiday just the way I want. Last weekend I tutored a friend in skiing. It was surprisingly fun, especially when after the first two slopes she began to stay upright more often than not. For the rest of the week I'm going to sleep in, watch movies (movies!) and read Jonathan Stange & Mr Norrell. What a wonderful plan.
