some of them want to deceive you
After somehow refusing a week-long stay in Iceland, I am going to Sweden for a day. Same thing, I guess, only less fish and no glaciers.
Next, presenting: My top ten favourite female characters
10. Princess Charlotte from Berserk is spoiled, sheltered and a brat. She is sixteen going on seventeen, which in the era Berserk seems to take place in means she should act like this time's twenty-year-olds, but she acts like she's eleven. She has some wise thoughts about war, or rather, peace, but I'm not sure how much of it is her being scared of violence and how much actual intellect.
And I want her to get the maneveryone she loves, rule with him wisely and peacefully and die as an old, old woman with many children and grandchildren and a huge amount of memories of a long, happy life.
09. Yukishirou Tomoe from Rurouni Kenshin reminds me of a piece of classical music. "Goodbye, my second beloved" makes me tear up every time I watch Tsuiokuhen and her victory over her inability to really smile is the reason I will read the whole manga again, some day.
...I want to write a poem about her.
08. Death from Sandman is a force of nature and there should be one in every list of... whatever. She's random and caring and would smile in the face of death. If she used mirrors. Which, judging by the look of her hair, she doesn't.
07. Rhode Camelot from D. Gray-man, who looks and acts as though she came from the Nightmare Before Christmas* part of Tim Burton's brain, would be way higher up this list if we only knew more about her. She dresses in stripes, does her homework, likes her schizophrenic brother and enjoys bloodshed and sending innocent people's souls beyond salvation, in most hurtful ways. Um. And eats lollipops.
*the UNCUT, UNPUBLISHED, YET-TO-BE PRODUCED NC-17 version
06. Amber from the Liveship Traders and Tawny Man trilogies. MWAHAHAHAHA- *cough* I'm not sure whether she counts or not. People who know, know.
05. Guu from Jungle wa itsumo Hale nochi Guu is pretty much the reason the series itself works, which is not enough reason for her to be on this list, so I'll say... Dry wit. Acting like the big boss. Talking cutely and "nya~~"ing while wearing the "regular" face. Swearing and talking like a tough, rough, worldly guy while wearing the "cute" face.
And the chinchikurin stick.
04. Sohma Akito from Fruits Basket. In the beginning of the series the readers knew there were many characters to be revealed. Akito was the one other characters most actively spoke of, and while she was introduced way earlier than some, still she continues to be mysterious... when most of the other characters were introduced, readers either knew them immediately or within the next few volumes. Akito was first mentioned in the very first volume, and still, in volume 18 or whatever, we continue to learn important things about her. When we stop learning about her, I think, the series will end. The curiosity is what makes her so appealing.
03. Chloe from Noir, she's actually quite sweet, for an assassin.
... She cares about people close to her?
She's got weapons way cooler than stinky firearms, she can kill people with teaspoons when she's not having tea with her "friends" with them, she's obsessive and she's got eye for different kinds of red, she doesn't use those ugly gowns that hang from the wardrobe of the room we see her in, she's kind of shy and willing to let Mireille within her circle of affection because of Kirika and - I've said this before, I'll say it again, if Kirika doesn't want her for Mireille, of all people, I'll take her, thankyouverymuch.
(...waitaminnit. This wasn't top ten fictional characters I'd totally do, was this?)
02. Mad Hatter from Angel Sanctuary. The name alone, along with other early references to Alice in Wonderland. The fact that one doesn't quite have a gender. That one is a demon, after all and, in fact, the Satan of Pride. The macabre.
01. Pikku Myy/Little My from Muumit/The Moomin, my biting, scratching childhood idol. Yes, you may sit on the pancake.
(...Writing this was fun.)
