I've always wanted to do one of these. So now that schoolwork is killing me, how about doing two at once? Presenting a 30-day shipping meme and a Final Fantasy meme of the same kind.
Day 01: What is your current favorite ship?
Beatrice/Battler from Umineko no Naku Koro ni.
Or rather, Beatrice/Battler from Banquet of the Golden Witch (episode 3 of Umineko).
...They have such great chemistry? They are both natural conversationalists, but even when they are pitted against other characters (which happens often), they never develop as fast an understanding of the other's quirks as they do of each other's. They have epic existential fights with a side flavour of IT'S PERSONAL, but even when they make each other feel like shit, it's still... good-natured. Even when it isn't. They talk about bloody murder one second and teacakes the next, and the conversation never feels stilted. They are having genuine fun just by talking to each other, and the feeling is very, very much mutual.
And Battler is burned so many times but he never really stops feeling (even if he does stop believing). He suffers beautifully and Beatrice enjoys it wholeheartedly, even if there are hidden layers there.
Beatrice, on the other hand, is a crazy dominant sadist and Battler, despite himself, is so turned on. And I might be taking some liberties with this reading, but there's this one scene in episode 6 that kinnnnd of makes me think it's not that far off the truth. It's very sad. Beatrice makes both a great S and a great M, but she will never get to try out her masochistic side, because DUE TO NO LITTLE FAULT OF HER OWN, Battler's got these preferences...
I admit that I feel like a traitor for not saying that I like them best in episode 4, but episode 3 is full of uncertainty and redefining boundaries, and, to quote Anonymous, "...and that's when Ushiromiya Battler fell in love."
DAY 01: Favorite opening?
Opening to a game would be Final Fantasy VI's. For the mystique. And the music, which is gorgeous. Besides, I love snow, and combined with the city of Narche in its starting stages of industrialism, and the mecha armors, it created a world that I had never seen in fantasy before (woo hoo introduction to steampunk). I remember leaving the long walk to Narche in a loop, just to marvel at the snowscape. It felt nostalgic and a bit like I'd come home, somehow.
Opening animation would also be Final Fantasy VI, PS1 version:
DS opening for Final Fantasy IV would be the close second, because THEME OF LOVE MY LOVELY and KAIN MY DEAREST and perhaps also for Cecil's blue lipstick:

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. First there's a short sequence that summarizes the situation neatly (there's a black whole in Antarctica that's growing rapidly, the general public is kept in the dark while all the world governments have united their power and knowledge to send a single expedition force to research/destroy this threat). The player, in the role of a veteran fighter taking part in the operation, is asked a series of questions related to their behaviour in different combat situations. These questions determine character specs and growth for the rest of the game. The last question:

Opening animation-wise SMT is full of excellent material, but Persona 2 Innocent Sin takes the prize, no contest:
The 2D drawings work amazingly well with the 3D background.
The best part is when near the end of the game that seemingly-random, pretentious quote (see also: the music) starts making a frightening amount of sense.)
