still awake at eight in the morning, what, does it show?

Finished Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga - Avatar Tuner 2 (did I get the whole title right, forgot to ask for directions along the way). Some days ago now. Nice gameplay engaging plot blah blah -- but now I'm totally intrigued by this whole new MegaTen game series I didn't even know existed.

It's supposed to be a step-up from most of the teen-pandering RPG series of today - which I really can't say I noticed possibly because of my pathetic knowledge of videogames (FFVI totally had adult themes in it!)... but apparently DDS was sort of. "Made more accessible to the masses." or somesuch and the other installments are more hardcore - which is interesting in and of itself BUT mostly I'm looking forward to slaying existing deities. Like the Christian god. :)

...Holy mother of all run-on sentences.

So I've been checking for good deals on Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne/Lucifer's Call and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou vs. The Soulless Army*. But more than that, I've been trying to hunt the original 80's/early 90's Megami Tensei and Shin Megami Tensei games on the net. Possibly very illegally.

After much despairing I managed to find a working version of Shin Megami Tensei in English. The problem is, all the previous experience I have with SNES games, or indeed, games this old is Final Fantasies four through six and their environments are really very different from this one's. The following scene, or something resembling it, has repeated often enough to make it funny, frustrating, sad, and funny again.

Me: Oh, a wall! *walks into it*
Game's fantastic sound effects: BANG.
Me: Oh, a wall! *walks into it*
Game's fantastic sound effects: BANG.
Me: Oh, a wall! *walks into it*
Game's fantastic sound effects: BANG.
Me: Oh, I know this wall! *walks into it*
Game's fantastic sound effects: BANG.
Me: *just. walks into it*
Game's fantastically ANNOYING sound effects: BANG.
Me: ...Oh I see this is a corridor WELL PLAYED, GAME. *tries using DIRECTIONAL BUTTONS besides FORWARD*
Me: *walks into a completely NEW WALL*
Game: :)
Me: ...

Also I'm... not on quite the same wavelenghts as the demons I'm supposed to be recruiting. I'm convinced I'd get the same results I'm getting now if all the possible "Talk" scenarios were replaced with this one instead:

Make a gullible moron out of yourself?
>WELL WHY NOT
>OH GODS YES YES

And all this in just under an hour of gameplay. And then I died! But this is not at all bad, even when I can't remember when I last saved, because by that time I was laughing so hard at my own idiocy that being killed made the situation just that much more hilarious, and besides I think I accidentally named a new character same I had named another one earlier. Oops.

Why is it almost nine in the morning and why am I not asleep yet.

*same as with Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto - if you're going to say type the name, might as well go all out
