Call Seraph, anyone?

Day 02: What was your very first ship?

This one is hard. Can't name dates, but these are all some of the first that I remember.

Haplo/Marit from the Death Gate Cycle (Alfred/Haplo was the One True Friendship). I was very taken in by Haplo as a character (ooh, he has conflicts! he's like a bad guy, only he's the protagonist! but he's also nice sometimes, this all very complex!), and the idea of him having a ~painful secret past~ of being romantically linked to someone was very intriguing.

I was also eleven.

But I do remember being extremely disappointed by Marit when we actually, you know, got to see her.

Another one was Raistlin/I can't say. Chrysania? I'm also fairly certain that I shipped him with Caramon. But I was certainly into shipping him with people. It brought interesting stuff out in him! He was so cold, and kind of pathetic, could he even have romantic positive interest in other human beings? There was all sorts of interesting subtext in the books at least.

....I was also eleven.

Sailor Moon introduced me to anime and fandom, and Haruka/Michiru (...click the link at you own discretion) was the first pairing I remember reading fanfiction for. "Two girls? I didn't know you were allowed to do that!"

I was into all sorts of things when I was eleven! This, however, is pairing I'm not particularly ashamed of.

(Looking back, I think I was also into Muumipeikko/Nuuskamuikkunen Moomintroll/Snufkin without really realizing it. Niiskuneiti Snork Maiden always felt so wrong. :/)

But my very first ship was probably this one:

But only if he's in beast form.

DAY 02: Favorite game?

Well, I like Tactics for its political intrigue, human scape of its conflicts, its gameplay. In VII I like the mysteries, the frightening unknown. The game really keeps you on your toes plotwise. XII was the first game I ever owned, and it's still the one I like to fiddle around with the most. VI is just plain good. I love how its characters tell much of the world history with them (it also has the best cutscene selection, if that even makes any sense).

But my favourite is this one:

Sparkling water, high sky, honest people, everyone suffers. There are random NPCs walking around, giving you stuff for free because you'll help them in return. Everyone tries together, it's not the special right of the player. The characters talk about hard stuff like politics and religion and racism, sometimes disagree, often negotiate. There are atheists! And no bad people, just mistaken people, and many mistakes. Not everything is forgotten, but sometimes people move on. Everything is sad and lovely and goes back in circles. I'm a sucker for all that.

And now, to break this fragile mood:

(Ghost answer for MegaTen:

It's a good thing I got to this before I had finished 1) the Persona 2 duology, 2) both of the Kuzunoha Raidou games and 3) Shin Megami Tensei II, because all of those are strong contestants for this one. For now I'll say the Digital Devil Saga duology (warning: one of those links is stupid).

Because it takes an existing mythology (Hindu, if you're wondering) and USES it, not just as wrapping paper in which all the other, important stuff happens, but as a framework, into which it builds the whole story, down to the very last scene.

Because the world is fully realized and heartfully crafted.

Because it gives space to its characters to grow and learn and discover and change, and is not ashamed to love them.

Because its story is told with such attention to timing and nuance; it's not just about what is told, it's about how it's told.

Because it doesn't underestimate the player, hold hands with them to explain every bit of new information, but instead leaves questions and it's up to you to discover the answers.

Because halfway through the second game you want to stop playing so that you can start the first one over again, just to marvel at how well everything connects together. And how many stories can DO that?

Because I have played it through five times, and every time I have discovered new things that leave me in awe of the creators.

Because it is just damn good.)
