Let's see... Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou... Casshern SINS... Turn A Gundam... Digital Devil Saga... Blade Runner... yup, sensing a clear trend here. (Now whether the trend is "after the end" or "AIs/ROBOTS!!", on that I'm still undecided.)

In Digital Devil Saga there's a sidequest where the female half of a romantic couple is first found murdered, and then the male half, when you find him, comes down upon the PCs with the fury of a thousand burning suns (regardless of whether you confess to murdering her - which you didn't do - or not). There are some people outside the building where this all takes place, before the battle itself, gushing about the man's "beautiful wings", and when you get to fight him, his demon (lol) form is Metatron and he is, indeed, very radiant and his wings indeed very glorious.

Since these events (finding the body of the woman, encountering the man) aren't immediately tied together, it takes until the fight itself to realise they're connected, and earlier gameplay-related things tend to be forgotten by then. Some time after beating him, I headed back to the area I found the body in, since I had the vaguest recollection of seeing certain demons there as random encounters (they drop very nice items). But it took me until getting there, and fighting there a few times until I realised something: the demons there are large goldish white birds that shine so brightly it's like looking at the sun. And they're the sole enemy you fight in that place.

So, a man so taken away by grief he can't listen to reason, "his beautiful wings", radiant winged creatures guarding her final resting place....

Why are the sideline romances always the most beautiful ones? ;_;
